This can range from photography to complex mathematical models - neither is inherently better than the other, but tell different elements and communicate to different audiences. This has been useful for me in terms of presenting research in different forms - from photographs, to charts to written biographies within a sociological context 9780226041261 Like the other H.S. Becker books a good read. It shows how society can be represented in different ways and how communities of makers and users of representations work together and distribute the work (and freedom) of in...

[Maira Kalman] Ï Max Makes a Million [Arts Photography Book] PDF ✓ Read Online eBook or Kindle ePUB

Max's dream is to live in Paris and be a poet--even though no one will buy his poems, and he is penniless. But living in New York City isn't so bad. Where else could he have friends like Bruno, who paints invisible pictures, or Marcello, who builds upside-down houses? FUll-color illustrations. Max Makes a Million Max Stravinsky, an aspiring poet and a New York City dog, longs to hit it big and move to Paris in this charmingly offbeat picture-book from author/artist Maira Kalman. From his home life with Morris and Ida - a shoe salesman and tango dancer, respectively - to his studio experiences with Bruno, who paints invisible paintings, Max's life is full of quirky characters, many of them artists and musicians, all of them dreamers. In the end, Max's own dreams do come true... Originally published by Viking in 1990, Max Makes a Million , the first of four picture-book detailing the oddball adventures of the eponymous canine character, was reprinted this past year (2017...

Seattle Public Library Ebooks ↠ Dolls Eyes PDF by ↠ Bari Wood eBook or Kindle ePUB free

Cat-and-mouse game between a serial killer and a psychic with whom he has a telepathic connection. It's as standard and generic a setup as you can imagine. But, because it's Bari Wood, it's just ever-so-much better than what the plot synopsis might suggest. As a character study of both the psychic, Eve Klein, and the killer (I won't name him, although it's hardly a spoiler since his POV is introduced very early in the novel), Doll's Eyes works great. Wood imbues both with a matter-of-fact richness and specificity that makes them utterly believable, and their relationship evolves in some interesting and unexpected ways. The book is also a solid exploration of the fallout caused by trauma and abuse. Where the book falls down a little is in the police procedural aspect. The third major character is Lieutenant Dave Latovsky, who is both searching for The Wolfman and falling in love with the psychic whose help he's trying to enlist. Latovsky is an engaging enough...

I'm not sure exactly how I feel about this book. I respect the fact the author brought up the complexities of Mexican society and did not shy away from talking about the many human rights abuses going on within Mexican society that the author seems to see as hidden from many outside the country (probably not too false an assumption). While the author was searching for her own cultural roots I felt the whole way through that she was as much a tourist in this country as anyone else visiting. Incidents were written up with a reporters eye but didn't give away too much of the author's real feelings in my mind. I wasn't touched by this book as much as I feel I should have been, having a particular love and interest for Mexico and its people. That said, the author appears an uncomplicated, brave woman with much to give the friends she made along the way. 336 This is the story of an American woman who goes to Mexico as an adult to discover her Mexican heritage and learn Spani...

[Childrens Book] ☆ The Goodbye Cancer Garden PDF by Janna Matthies Ô eBook or Kindle ePUB free

This is a pretty good one, maybe for the grade school set. It does a good job of showing the idea of everyone helping out, and the fact that recovery takes a while. Good illustrations! :) 32 This is the story of how one family copes with a mother's breast cancer. The doctor tells the children their mother will be better at pumpkin time, so they and their parents grow a garden and chart their mother's recovery according to the growth of the pumpkin. I love that cancer is portrayed as something that can be beaten, and the focus is on coping and getting through a difficult time, rather than the sadness and loss that cancer does sometimes bring about. There are many families out there who could benefit from sharing a book like this. Hardcover Lovely illustrations, inspirational, and positive. This was a realistic story showing what fighting breast cancer as a family looks like, including some great suggestions for support and coping. The Goodbye Cancer Garden A well- illustrated, ...
